sneak peak @ next week

today in programming we began brainstorming creative ideas for next weeks service(s) at the Crossing. people on the programming team throw out everything they've considered--in light of the scriptures being taught--and then we see what creative ideas stick by discussing what captures our attention and why. it's interesting to me that the ideas each person contributes are often an extension of their own unique personality and today was no exception. i won't tell you who threw out this idea, but i will tell you that this tune (minus the video) may just find it's way into the big picture of next week's service . . .

on a side note, i absolutely love a live performance--like this one--that does something quirky to capture my attention. not only does it help me soak up the song--and enjoy the music that much more--but it also connects me to the person making the music b/c it reveals so much about the personality behind the music. more and more, i believe we connect first with the personality of a performer/actor/musician/songwriter and second with their art. gone is the age when we solely take other people's word for who/what we should like. more and more we are a culture who must 'experience it for ourselves.' THEN, once we have connected with the overall ethos or vibe someone puts off, we invest more of our attention/time/money/etc. in their music/media/art. in short, we actually have a pretty healthy view of our own opinion, and if we don't like somebody, we're just fine with turning the channel, skipping the concert, disagreeing with the masses etc. what does this mean for artists? it means they must care for their audience beyond their own desire for attention/fame/success. it means an artist must genuinely be a good host, inviting people into an experience that will take them on a unique journey--that in part--is an extension of the artist's personality, creativity, and individual journey. bottom line: whatever you do--whether it is facilitate loving environments for kids, advise people in their finances, or write songs--you are inviting people into your own journey, an experience of who you are. and if you want to succeed at what you do, continue to find creative ways to express who you are b/c people connect first with you...by God's grace, everything else falls into place (oooo, that last part rhymed! hehe ;-)
