this week i'm in indiana building guitars with my dad. it's been a blast so far and the week is flying by. today we glued the top and bottom of our acoustics to the siding, and routed them for inlay. tomorrow we put on the guitar neck...yadayadayada. i've never been so interested in the process of woodworking-- but this week has been a real eye opener for me that i can actually build stuff with my hands. in the past i've always enjoyed the product more than the process i.e. playing the guitar more than crafting it. but maybe that's changing or i'm maturing or both because all of a sudden i'm noticing the small details of everything in life, and understanding how important they are to me and to others.
still there's something to be said just for the joy of playing an instrument regardless of the details. play is contagious, and helps me check out for a while in unselfconciousness. i need that. it's a lot more fun to build if you're also able to take a break from time to time, be a kid and just enjoy playing.
