10,000 Talents - Jordan McCabe

A friend of mine sent me this youtube link about a 6th grader named Jordan McCabe. He's a little basketball prodigy that can do things with a basketball that will amaze you...even if, like me, you're not an athlete. it got me thinking: how much time does it take to get this good at something? and could we all be this good at something and not know it? is there simple stuff that we do so well that if we were showcased others would look at us and say 'wow, that's amazing'?

i heard about a John Maxwell book that talks about "talent" in which he says that talent is the cumulation of anything you do for 10,000 or more hours. by that standard all of us are talented at watching tv, typing on the computer, sleeping, eating and using the bathroom. :-) but what else have you done for more than 10,000 hours that you're not even considering a talent because it's just apart of what you do? have you spent 10,000 hours caring for a loved one? have you spent that much time reading, writing, cooking, creating, dreaming, walking, communicating with others, or soaking in the goodness of God? i think the amazing thing about humans is that we've all become experts at something without even knowing it, and if we'll slow down and think for a minute we can begin to value some part of ourselves that we'd never considered as a gift before.

so here's a question for you; what have you done in your life--maybe even without thinking about it--for 10,000 hours?
